First Meet as a Benswic Track Club

The Benswic boys and girls cross country teams both came out on Sunday's USATF XC #1 meet ready to perform. Last year cross country season we were running under a different name "Fuse Academy" and with 4 runners. Today we're officially known as Benswic |bens, wik|. We already feel like a team, our runners are focus and ready to prove to themselves they can compete with whomever.

Thirteen of our runners came to prove to themselves and others that they could compete just like everyone else in today’s first cross country meet held at Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx. The opening race was the Novice mile, which we had Lilly (9-10) in 11:16.50 and Xavier Weir our youngest (age 5yr) runner who ran an 10:16.50. Our most exciting day was our promising group of 9-10 boys, Emmanuel Marshall, Christopher Marshall, David O’Meara, Chance Bacchas and Hunter Bernhardt who was impressive for our first cross country opener and coming in 4 place as team. Emmanuel finished 31st in 13:29.30 (PR), Chance finished 34th in 13:33.70, Christopher finished 35th in 13:35.50, David finished 50th in 14:11.80 and Hunter placing 113th with the time of 17:54.90.

Joseph Melican competed in his first XC with a time of 15:09.50 for the boy 11-12 3k.

Abigail Melican 15-16 competing in her first opening season of cross country, since dealing with constant injuries last year and today she looked stronger then ever. We look forward in her performance for the remainder of the season.

“I think we took some good strides and confident that all or most will end this season with a PR (personal record), and I think we’re in pretty good shape for qualifying to Regional 1 Champs. Our New York Association is so tough. Our guys have to really train in order to make the next round. I trust they will”

Workout of the Day #1

In order to perform a variety of athletic tasks, athletes need strong core muscles for spinal stability and postural alignment. You can’t swing a tennis racket, golf club or baseball bat, or even throw a ball, without engaging a portion of your core. Since the core muscles function differently than your arm and leg muscles, they must be trained in a different manner for the exercises to be effective.
