We all looked forward to this moment. Four meets, Fourteen weeks of practice –– we survived without injuries, lost of interest and getting slower. With consistent running and fitness workout these runners ended their season amazingly, for most, to the next round.
We couldn’t have been more happier for our 9-10 boys performing their very best qualifying to Regional 1 Championship held in Saratoga Spa State Park. Unfortunately, only one out of the 4 didn’t make it. Chance Bacchas fought all the way to the finish placing him 32nd in 14:12, just 3 runners shy to qualify. Chance expressed his disappointment but assured us that next year it will be different. An attitude to watch out for…we at Benswic are cheering for that to happen. Emmanuel Marshall the first of Benswic placing 27th in 13:55 (PR), followed by Christopher Marshall 28th in 13:57.1 (PR) and David O’Meara placing 29th in 13:59.9 (Season PR).
Xion Bacchas, has performed amazingly as well. Competing in her first 4k with 13-14 placing 21st in 19:21.1 (PR), Xion has earned her seat in Regionals.
Abby Melican 15-16, with another outstanding performance placing her 2nd in 22:01 (PR). Though she really wanted to run under 22mins. If it weren’t for her having a side stitch that caused her to slow down a few times, Abby knew her 22 could have been a 21+. We look forward to her performance, with the hope she is able to run 21mins…as we also look for the 9-10 Boys to have an outstanding performance as well.
Even though, most of the Benswic crew did not make it to the next round. Both of our 9-10 Girls 3k ZaQiyah Bacchas placing 55th in 16:33 and Andrea Alburquerque placing 62 in 17:08.1 (PR) knocking off more than a min. Both competing in their first cross country season, we are very excited about in the near future.
Edith O’Meara 11-12 Girls 3K with the time of 18:18.9 knocking off 2mins. Unbelievable!!!
Joseph Melican 11-12 3k wasn’t as pleased with his overall time but fought despite not feeling well during mid-race, placing 56th in 14:45.9.
