We have arrive at Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg. Eight of our athletes qualified to Regional 1 Championship. We leave with 3 runners qualifying to Nationals.

Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg – The Benswic track and field programs featured impressively competitive starts to the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Championships on Friday, hosted by the USATF at Fitchburg State University.

Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg – The Benswic track and field programs featured impressively competitive starts to the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Championships on Friday, hosted by the USATF at Fitchburg State University.

8 Benswic were in action after a rainy start to the day, beginning with the boys and girls Triathlon and the Pentathlon and the 2k Steeplechase.

ZaQiyah Bacchas (9-10) opened the day, in the Triathlon (shotput, High Jump and 200m). Followed by Christopher Marshall (9-10), also competing in the Triathlon (shotput, High Jump and 400m). Later Xion Bacchas (13-14), Yasiin Bacchas (11-12) and Emmanuel Marshall (11-12) competed in the Pentathlon (Shotput, High Jump, Long Jump 80m Hurdles/100m Hurdles and 800m/1500m). The day concluded with Abby Melican competing in the 2k Steeplechase.

Saturday morning, ZaQiyah Bacchas started us off with the High Jump where she not only PR but won her 9-10 Girls Division, allowing her to represent Benswic at Nationals.

Later in the afternoon, Christopher Marshall (9-10) competed in the open 100m Trial and then qualifying to the Finals, placing 5th Overall making him a contender at Nationals. Yasiin Bacchas (11-12), later  competed in the same in event (100m Trial) and also qualifying to the final but shy of making it to Nationals. Followed by Bryana Marshall (15-16) competing the 100m Trial but also did not make it to the next round finishing 14th.  In between the 100m Trial and 100m Final the 1500m went way, where Abigail Melican competed placing 6th overall…one spot a way from making it Nationals.

Sunday, the last day of qualifiers to make it to Nationals. Christopher Marshall yet again representing Benswic TC by running the open 200m. Christopher qualifies to the Finals and then places 5th overall to qualify to Nationals. Bryana Marshall (15-16) later competes in the same event and qualifies to Finals as well but fell ill after.

Later on, Abigail Melican runs the open 800m, placing 9th overall. Joseph Melican (11-12) and Blake Feldman (15-16) performs in the Javelin, both making their first imperious not just to the event but to Regional 1 Qualifiers.

During our 3day meet, 3 of Benswic athletes will advance to compete in the finals of the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships,  Monday, July 24, 2017 – Sun, Jul 30.

Pentathlon (11-12): Emmanuel Marshall – 9th (787pt PR).
100m and Pentathlon (11-12): Yasiin Bacchas – 8th (14.36);  8th (1065 PR).

 

Girls:
Triathlon and High Jump: ZaQiyah Bacchas – 1st High Jump (3.95m); 1st Triathlon (670pt PR) – ADVANCES TO NATIONALS
100m and 200m: Bryana Marshall – 14th 100m (13.62); 200m DNS

800, 1500m and 2k Steeplechase: Abigail Melican – 9th 800m (2:39.99); 6th 1500m (5.25.5 ); and 4th (8:25.16 PR)
Pentathlon: Xion Bacchas – 10th (1292pt PR)
